Workflows
Durable, long running work that survives restarts and reports its own progress.
A workflow is a sequence of steps that outlives the process running it. Steps can wait days for an external system without holding anything open.
Steps
Each step is recorded when it completes. A restart resumes at the first incomplete step rather than starting over, so a step that already sent an email does not send it twice.
Waiting
Waiting is a state, not a failure. A step waiting on an approval or a rate limited system stays waiting and reports why.
Failure
A failed step records the error it received and stops the run. Fix the cause and retry: the run resumes from that step with everything before it intact.
Agents inside workflows
A workflow step can call an agent. That is the usual shape for real work: deterministic steps for the parts that must be exact, an agent for the part that needs judgement.
